A new Xbox Series X|S update is rolling out that adds party chat noise suppression and the ability to jump into a game from your friends’ shared captures.
Noise suppression in party chats could be a game-changer for some, as it’ll help remove unwanted noises like gamepad clicks when you’re chatting to your friends or using voice chat in-game. The Xbox Wireless Controller’s D-Pad is annoyingly loud, so the noise suppression feature should spare your friends’ ears from any incessant clicking. Crying babies, household appliances, and other background noise generators should also be cut out.
However, as with all noise suppression tech, there’s a chance the noise gate might be too aggressive for some microphones, which could impact the volume and clarity of your voice. Thankfully, it can be toggled on or off at any time — just head to the ‘Options’ section in ‘Parties & chats’ to enable or disable noise suppression.
Microsoft has also added a new feature that lets you jump into a game from your friends’ shared captures. You can watch a friend’s gameplay clip or view a screenshot and then start playing the same title directly in your browser or a mobile device with cloud gaming. Remember that you’ll need to be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member to access cloud gaming.
To ensure you’ve installed the latest Xbox Series X|S system, press the Xbox button to open the guide and select ‘Profile & system’ > ‘Settings.’ From there, select ‘System’ > ‘Console info’ to see which OS version your console is running. Check out the full patch notes here.
Microsoft recently revealed the next slate of September Xbox Game Pass titles, including Metal: Hellsinger and Disney Dreamlight Valley. The company also confirmed that should its takeover of Activision Blizzard be successful, Call of Duty, Diablo, and Overwatch will come to Xbox Game Pass in the future.
Microsoft is doubling down on its efforts to attract more people to Xbox Game Pass. A new membership tier in Ireland and Colombia, Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family, lets you share an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription with five others.
