Elon Musk declares Donald Trump's Twitter account will be reinstated after poll
Apparently, you are the 'content moderation council,' Twitter users
➡️ The Shortcut Skinny: Trump back on Twitter?
🐦 Elon Musk just tweeted that Donald Trump’s Twitter account will be reinstated
🗳️ Deeply divided poll results: 51.8% said “Yes” / 48.2% said “No”
🤔 But will Trump come back to Twitter after establishing Truth Social?
🙌 More unbanned Twitter accounts: Babylon Bee, Jordan Peterson, Kathy Griffin
Twitter is welcoming Donald Trump back to the platform, with Elon Musk declaring that the former US President’s account will be reinstated following a Twitter poll.
Unsurprisingly, the 15 million “votes” cast in this unscientific poll showed that Twitter, like the country, is deeply divided. The results after 24 hours are in: 51.8% said “Yes” to wanting Trump back on Twitter and 48.2% said “No.”
And, just like in a real election, many people didn’t vote. Musk noted in a tweet that, based on impressions, “134M people have seen this poll” about 90 minutes before the results were in. While Musk has said that a “content moderation council” with “divergent views” would make important issues, apparently, in this case, you are the content moderation council. Surprise!
Will Trump come back to Twitter?
Musk letting Trump come back to Twitter isn’t a guarantee that @realDonaldTrump will be back. The former President had once vowed to remain on Truth Social, the alt-tech social media network that launched 13 months ago.
But given the fact that Trump launched his third bid for the US Presidency this week and the amount of traction his tweets got daily up until it was banned following January 6, 2021, it’s likely we’ll see 3am tweetstorms from @realDonaldTrump. And, of course, everyone will be basing their media reports on those tweets – even CBS News, which has recently said it’s giving up on Twitter for now.
Musk hasn’t laid out a timetable for when Donald Trump will be able to access his account again. However, he recently reinstated other controversial Twitter users after they were banned: Canadian author Jordan Peterson, satirical conservative news site The Babylon Bee and comedian Kathy Griffin. So far he has only held up the ban on one person: Alex Jones.
