Why are you saying 8gen2 is going to compete with g3 tensor and a17 bionic? The snap dragon 8 gen 2 came out the same month as the g2 tensor and a month after the a16. And they're saying that it doesn't compete with them, but with the chips that will come out in 11 months? Where does this make sense?
Good eye, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was *announced* in December (3 months after the Apple's A16 and 2 months after Google's G2), but it's not in any phones just yet (reasoning below). So the phones – most notably the rumored Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and theoretical Fold 5 that are likely to launch in mid-February and mid-August 2023 – will compete against the iPhone 15 (September 2023) and Pixel 8 (October 2023) for consumers' attention.
I think the distinction is that Qualcomm pre-announces each Snapdragon iteration months in advance in order to sell the chipset to phone manufacturers (who are privately selling their worth to carriers), and then to consumers. Less lag time required for Apple and Google.
