January’s batch of PS Plus free games appears to have leaked via the usual source, offering up a couple of standout picks.
Ever-reliable DealLabs user billbil-kun – who’s successfully leaked every monthly PS Plus Essential line-up for over a year – claims next month’s bundle will include Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76 and Axiom Verge 2. They’re expected to be available from January 3 to February 7 for all PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium members.
Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019, rebooting the cult-classic Star Wars Jedi series with a fresh protagonist and story. It’s an odd Metroidvania and Soulslike mash-up that works well for its slick combat and typically spirited adventure through new locales of the Star Wars universe. It’s not nearly as punishing as FromSoftware’s games, either, making it a great introduction to the popular genre.
Fallout 76, meanwhile, has gone on something of a redemption arc since its launch in 2018. Bugs, glitches and an absence of content soured the multiplayer survival game for many series fans, but persistent updates since have vastly expanded its world and earned it a thriving audience. Worth checking out if you’re interested in a base-building MMO set in the Fallout universe.
Axiom Verge 2 from last year is an indie platformer-shooter in the same vein as Metroid Dread, one of the best Nintendo Switch games. Like the Nintendo classic, you’ll explore an alien world, shoot a lot of monsters and pick up new weapons to gradually progress through segments of the interconnected map.
Don’t forget to pick up December's line-up of PS Plus games before they disappear on January 2. PS Plus subscribers can net themselves Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant and Divine Knockout.

Sony’s revamped versionof PS Plus isn’t an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate killer by any means, and the current PlayStation Plus Premium games list is still looking a bit thin on the ground, but the platform’s most affordable tier – Essential – is still vital for anyone wanting to play multiplayer games on their PlayStation console, and the monthly slate of games it gives you aren’t bad either.
