➡️ The Shortcut Skinny: Mid-range GPU?
😭 Nvidia still hasn’t announced an RTX 4070 GPU
🤔 Leak suggests RTX 4070 will be a weaker version of RTX 4080
💸 No info on pricing yet
👀 GPU market is heating up again
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 was kind of the star of the Ampere generation, providing excellent performance for the money – at least before it was sold out everywhere for two years. For some reason, when Nvidia launched the RTX 4080, it didn’t show off the mid-range RTX 4070. However, a fresh leak has appeared giving us an idea of what to expect.
The leak comes courtesy of Twitter tech leaker @harukaze5719, who tweeted out a specs table comparing the yet-to-be-announced RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti with their last-generation counterparts. The RTX 4070 Ti has been leaked a million times already, and will likely be a re-badged RTX 4080 12GB. However, the RTX 4070 has been more elusive.
This leak points to the mid-range graphics card being a further cut-down AD104 die with 5,888 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM on a 192-bit bus. So, basically, it’s just a slightly weaker RTX 4070 Ti, with the same memory spec. That is, if we can actually believe the leaked specs for the RTX 4070 Ti in the first place.
We’re not sure when this leaked graphics card will actually appear, but if the RTX 4070 specs are accurate, it may not be that compelling against the leaked RTX 4070 Ti. It’ll be interesting to see how the pricing of these mid-range cards will play out, especially with the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT beating them to the punch.
Either way, budget users looking for the best GPU for their build will have an answer soon. I just hope it isn’t too expensive.
