🔜 The Last of Us TV series is due out next year
HBO has released a full-length trailer of its upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us, and fans of the game will notice more than a few memorable moments from Joel and Ellie’s perilous journey.
The Last of Us TV series stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos) as Joel and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie and looks set to provide a faithful representation of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed PS3 game, which was recently remade for PS5.
We see the duo making their way across a post-apocalyptic America by any means necessary and get a quick glimpse at the series’ most terrifying enemy type, the Clickers. If you’re unfamiliar with The Last of Us’s story,
Fans will also notice a powerful scene from The Last of Us: Left Behind, the game’s short but sweet DLC expansion. We see Ellie riding a merry-go-round in the abandoned mall, which she explores with her friend Riley. I won’t spoil what happens next, but it’ll be interesting to see things play out.
HBO’s The Last of Us is set to release sometime in 2023 and reportedly has a budget of $10m per episode, making it one of the most expensive shows ever made. Joel and Ellie’s voice actors from the game, Troy Baker and Ashely Johnson, will also have a cameo in the show.

Video game adaptations are getting better 🙌
The Last of Us joins the likes of The Witcher, Halo, and Resident Evil in getting a big-budget TV adaptation. We’ve also seen anime adaptations of Cyberpunk 2077, Castlevania, League of Legends, and Dragon’s Dogma. It remains to be seen if The Last of Us will be hit, but the trailer seems promising.
After decades of absolutely awful video game adaptations, even the film industry has delivered some successful hits recently. Sonic the Hedgehog and Uncharted both performed incredibly well, and a new animated Super Mario movie is on the way starring Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Seth Rogan (Donkey Kong), and Charlie Day (Luigi).
The next big video game to get the TV treatment is Fallout, which is coming to Amazon Prime in 2023.
