God of War Ragnarok controller: where to find the rare PS5 controller
God of War Ragnarok just launched on the PS5, but the limited-edition DualSense PS5 controller is sold out almost everywhere.
➡️ The Shortcut Skinny: God of War Ragnarok controller
🎮 Limited-edition God of War Ragnarok PS5 DualSense controller
📆 Release date: November 9, alongside the new God of War game
😭 Availability: Sold out at most stores in the US, but there’s hope
💰 Price: $74.99 MSRP
🌈 Color: Two-tone blue and white with a bear and wolf insignia
Finding the God of War Ragnarok PS5 controller in stock has become difficult in November, just as the accompanying game and our God of War Ragnarok review. While it went on sale on September 27, the limited-edition PS5 DualSense gamepad color sold out at US retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and Walmart. Now it appears to be too late to buy the God of War Ragnarok controller.
Here are the stores that have sold the God of War controller.
I’m tracking restocks on my PS5 restock Twitter tracker – follow and turn on notifications and I’m giving away the one I bought. My controller arrived later than the actual God of War game from Walmart, while my Best Buy reservation has been delayed indefinitely. I may have to wait for another God of War Ragnarok controller restock if I want one for myself.
The God of War controller price is $74.99, the MSRP of other PS5 controller colors, although Walmart was charging a flat $74, a bit cheaper than the competition.
God of War Ragnarok restock time
I will be tracking the God of War controller restocks as part of our Black Friday deals coverage this month. There’s a chance that retailers in the United States will have more in stock after selling out when pre-orders first went live on September 27. Today is also the PSVR 2 pre-order date so there’s always hope at PlayStation Direct.
When the God of War Ragnarok limited-edition games went on sale for the first time months ago, it was throughout in late morning at Sony Direct. That’s the usual time frame for new hardware to launch.
Best Buy God of War controller pre-order
Best Buy was the last store in the US to offer a God of War Ragnarok pre-order and it sold out much too quickly for it to be completely sold out. The pre-order button was only lit up in yellow for about three minutes. Contrast that with GameStop, which still has the limited-edition controller for sale. It’s hard to believe that Best Buy would have such little inventory of Sony’s special-edition PS5 DualSense controller.
That means that Best Buy God of War controller pre-orders could still happen – sure enough, we did see the add-to-cart button light up a second time 15 minutes after it initially sold out (or at the gray button says “Coming Soon”). This is bound to happen a third, fourth and fifth time soon – or during a special sale. Stay tuned for updates.
God of War Ragnarok controller pre-order date
The limited-edition God of War Ragnarok controller pre-orders started on September 27 and the DualSense Ragnarok sold out before the end of the day at most retailers. We’ve seen it before for other limited-edition PS5 gear in 2022 (and as we’re still seeing from most PS5 restock events when the price is MSRP).
This was true of two God of War collector’s editions – Jotnar Edition and the regular Collector’s Edition, both of which feature a 16-inch Mjölnir replica hammer. Retailers in the US have been known to launch pre-orders of special edition PlayStation 5 gear at staggered times and then come back unexpectedly weeks later, and the God of War Ragnarok controller news is expected to be no different.
What does the God of War controller look like?
The God of War Ragnarok controller has a two-tone design – cool blue and icy white – drawing inspiration from the Norse world of Midgard. You’ll also see a bear and wolf insignia on the touchpad. According to Sony, this represents God of War Ragnarok lead characters Kratos and Atreus.
Taking a glance at my latest Twitter replies, God of War fans are mixed on the blue-on-white PS5 DualSense controller color scheme. This is probably because so many solid PS5 controller colors are available right now – including favorites like Midnight Black, Galatic Purple and Starlight Blue. Do we really need a dark blue PS5 controller now? It depends on how eager you are to please Kratos (and your own case of FOMO).
The good news is that the God of War controller looks better in person. Recent leaks of the Ragnarok DualSense controller in the wild actually look better in the wild than in Sony’s own renders.
God of War Ragnarok PS5 controller price
Current PS5 DualSense controllers retail for $74.99 MSRP (you can find the white PS5 DualSense for $69.99) and they’re occasionally on sale for as low as $59.99 (during Prime Day and likely for this upcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday, for example).
This limited-edition God of War Ragnarok controller certainly is special, but there’s no extra functionality, unlike the forthcoming PS5 DualSense Edge controller. But, then again, the PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge price is much higher, as our analysis indicated even before Sony announced the official price.
Even if the God of War controller were to have cost more, it was always going to sell out fast. People are just that hungry for limited-edition versions of the best PS5 accessories in 2022. As soon as I provided links to retailers like Sony Direct, Walmart, Amazon, GameStop, and Antonline, people started clicking in the thousands, according to my exclusive data.
News about the God of War Ragnarok controller is a nice consolation prize, offering PlayStation 5 owners something to be excited about. Recently, Nintendo and Microsoft hogged the video game news cycle. Recently, we learned that Nintendo Switch and Xbox platforms will get the long-awaited GoldenEye 007 remaster “soon” (for Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Online + Expansion Pack) and that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of a Kingdom release date is May 12, 2023, on Nintendo Switch. Expect those games to be added to the best Xbox Series X games and best Nintendo Switch games lists, respectively.
Stray tuned for more God of War Ragnarok controller updates as retailers in the US may continue to offer availability. If not, that giveaway for my followers and subscribers may be the only path forward for God of War fans.
Stunning, can't wait, thanks for tracking.
