GameStop PS5 restock at nearly all store locations this weekend – exclusive details

Exclusive: The GameStop PS5 restock in stores throughout the United States this weekend gave us the best sign that it’s going to be easier to buy the Sony console in late 2022 without having to line up or turn on Twitter notifications for my PS5 restock tracker. That’s because nearly every GameStop store location had at least one bundle for sale and there were four bundles total, including the elusive PS5 Digital Edition.

Through the exclusive GameStop restock sources, I found out how many Sony PS5 consoles were available, on average, at each GameStop store and first reported on this information on The Shortcut last Friday. GameStop’s official reveal of this news gave you less than a 24-hour notice.

This GameStop restock this weekend made up for the fact that the Amazon PS5 restock was half as fulfilling as promised – the PS5 Digital was scooped up by a lot of bots and only a few of my followers, I can confirm, while PS5 Disc never showed up despite language on the Amazon page that suggested otherwise. The Target PS5 restock date was likely pushed back to this new week, while we saw nothing from Sony Direct PS5 restock earlier this week. So the GameStop PS5 restock on Saturday was important.

Why not April 1? GameStop has routinely done Friday restocks in stores, but it’s giving weekday-working consumers a chance – and the running joke/very serious reasoning, I’m told, is that “no one will believe we are selling PS5s on April fools day.” That’s a direct quote from inside GameStop.

The best part about this GameStop PS5 restock in-store event is that almost every GameStop store in the United States had limited quantities of PS5 Disc and PS5 Digital Edition. This stands in stark contrast to the prior GameStop PlayStation 5 restock two weeks ago when only about 969 of just over 3,000 stores in the US had a console and only about four consoles per store.

Keep in mind: You will need an active GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro membership, there will be on average 10 PS5 Disc consoles and anywhere from 0 to 2 PS5 Digital Edition consoles at each participating store. This is going to be a massive restock for GameStop, but one that’s spread out across the United States.

GameStop PS5 restock time

The GameStop PS5 restock time started when your local store normally opened this past Saturday, usually from 8am to 11am local time at most GameStop locations in the US. Both PS5 Disc and Digital were in stock, with about 10 units of PS5 Disc and two PS5 Digital consoles at each store on average. That means if you were thirteenth in line, my advice was to only stick around if your schedule allowed it, but don’t expect to get a PS5 console unless someone leaves their spot.

The night before a GameStop PS5 restock, at closing time, all participating US store locations will post a paper sign of how many units and which bundles they have. This will determine if it’s worth camping out and lining up for the PlayStation 5.

From what I saw, every GameStop store had PS5 consoles to sell, unlike prior restocks in which anywhere from three (in the very early days) to 1,000 stores participated in a given restock event. GameStop has about 3,000 stores in the US.

I don’t have a need to spend hours compiling a full list of stores from the GameStop store locator this time. Just about every GameStop had the PS5 in stock, including two states – Nebraska and Wyoming – that never had consoles during a GameStop PS5 restock in-store event. I have followers who were eager to finally get their hands on a console from those neglected US states.

The cheapest price of a bundle during this GameStop PS5 restock this past weekend might actually have been the best value. The PS5 Digital Edition with a Samsung 1TB 980 Pro SSD – one of the best PS5 SSD with heatsink 1TB options you can install – is a worthy upgrade for the disc-less console. You’ll need the extra space because the PS5 internal SSD comes with just 667GB of user-accessible space and you can’t use an external hard drive for PS5 games (they’re not fast enough).
