That’s because I’m now tracking where and when the PlayStation 5 is in stock at retailers in the US, including Best Buy, where there has been a PS5 restock nationwide once in July. Now that demand for the Sony console has been alleviated, more PS5 drops are expected in August 2022, and I’ll be tracking the PS5 on Twitter every day.

Best Buy PS5 restock time

• The Best Buy PS5 restock on is weekdays from 9:55am ET and 5:05pm ET

• The most popular Best Buy PS5 restock time is 12pm ET

• The PS5 was in stock for almost an hour recently; demand is down

The next Best Buy PS5 restock time may be 12pm ET because that’s been the most popular time in which Best Buy restocks next-gen consoles. Best Buy has restocked the PS5 outside of this exact time window, but it always has stock during work hours.

This means Best Buy has consistently done PS5 restock events on weekdays, from 9:55am ET to 5:05pm ET, my in-depth research has revealed. No weekends and no nighttime restocks have happened in 2021 or 2022. Only once has it had an in-store restock nationwide (back on September 23 of last year).

Of course, while this information is reliable, it makes the exact Best Buy PS5 restock time harder to nail down than the Target PS5 restock (which is almost always in the early morning once per month) or Sony Direct PS5 restock (late in the afternoon). The Amazon PS5 restock invitation system has done away with random PS5 restock times, while the Walmart PS5 restock always comes with advance notice.

Best Buy PS5 restock Disc vs Digital

• The Best Buy PS5 Disc restock is far easier to get than PS5 Digital

• Best Buy sells bundles, but they’re from the same inventory, so you won’t better your chances at buying a PS5 by opting for a bundle

The advantage of shopping at Best Buy is that you won’t be forced to buy a PlayStation 5 bundle. Unlike each Antonline and GameStop PS5 restock, Best Buy is one of the stores in the United States that offers PS5 Disc at $499 and PS5 Digital at $399. Any PS5 game bundles you see on the Best Buy website are always optional and come from the same inventory (meaning they all run out at the same time).

Of course, as we point out in our PS5 Disc vs Digital comparison, PS5 Digital is being produced by Sony far less today and it’s therefore almost impossible to buy in July.

With that said, it’s not all roses when it comes to buying a PS5 from Best Buy.

Best Buy PS5 restock problem

There’s a big catch to some Best Buy PS5 restock dates. The Sony console is often limited in quantity and, in addition to that, limited to Best Buy Totaltech members. Watch out for that upcharge.

Best Buy Totaltech is a hefty $199 yearly fee, which is a far higher price than other memberships – $14.99 a year for GameStop PowerUp Reards Pro, $139 a year for Amazon Prime and $12.95/mo for Walmart Plus. Best Buy Totaltech is only worth it if you’re going to take advantage of the other included perks, and even then there are some restrictions I’ll outline below.

Perks include GeekSquad tech support, AppleCare Plus, free delivery and standard installation on new Best Buy purchases, extended 60-day return windows, and free two-day shipping. So this service does offer more than just access to the PlayStation 5 and hard-to-find restock items, what’s left? Truth be told, Nvidia GPUs are easier to get now and the Xbox Series X price has stabilized (although avoid the Xbox Series X GameStop restock because it’s still being bundled for some reason).

Why Totaltech is hardly worth it

Best Buy Totaltech is the least convincing of memberships in which a PS5 restock is locked behind a paywall:

• It’s by far the most expensive at $199 for one year, half the price of a PS5 Digital console at Best Buy

• PS5 is becoming easier to purchase at other retailers, so is $199 worth it?

• AppleCare Plus only includes Apple tech purchased at Best Buy, yet the lowest Apple AirPods price is from Amazon and B&H Photo. The same for iPad deals, MacBook deals, iPhone deals, and the best AirTags price in the US

• GeekSquad support is for asking IT questions, but labor and parts will still cost you money. I think some people buy into this membership thinking that will get GeekSquad to fix their computer or phone for free if something goes wrong

Other PS5 restock events besides Best Buy

The Best Buy PS5 restock is far from the only one we’ll see in the coming days. I fully expect more Amazon PS5 restock invitations to go out to customers in the coming days. Both Amazon and Best Buy want to drive as much awareness to the other deals during the two-day deals marathon.

The one thing I’ll be looking at is whether or not this PS5 restock at Best Buy ever does an in-store restock in the US. Given the Totaltech requirement, it may last a lot longer each time Best Buy does this, especially if people read this critical tech advice.
