Apple iPhone 14 expectations
Apple’s launch event on September 7 is a week earlier than everyone had originally anticipated (usually Apple has its events on the second full week of September). This means the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch 8 could be in your hands and on your wrist a bit sooner this month. Get your old iPhones ready for Apple and carrier trade-in deals.
The likely iPhone 14 release date is Friday, September 16, and four new models of the new iPhone have been rumored for months: the entry-level iPhone 14, the new iPhone 14 Max, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. No iPhone 14 Mini is expected this time around, sorry folks with small hands but loud voices. Analysts suggest that not enough people bought the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro leaks suggest that the higher-end phones will dominate the change list with a new chipset, better cameras year-over-year and a design that does away with the camera notch in favor of a ‘pill-shaped’ cut-out.
Not upgrading to iPhone 14? There’s still reason for current iPhone owners to tune in: iOS 16, which was first seen at WWDC 2022 this past summer, is set to launch. We’ll see the final set of features and learn about the official iOS 16 release date.
Apple Watch 8 expectations
The new Apple Watch is supposed to debut alongside the iPhone 14, and it sounds like a bigger refresh than the new iPhone.
The Apple Watch 8 is expected to come in three models: the standard Apple Watch 8, the cheaper Apple Watch SE 2 and the Apple Watch 8 Rugged Edition with a tougher design and slightly larger display.
Apple has confirmed none of this, of course, but the ‘Far Out’ invite does make us think there’s something more the company will unveil on September 7.
